New Year’s Eve in Sweden
Hello beautiful reader, this is MySwedish and today we are going to talk about New Year’s Eve in Sweden. I would like to introduce you in what way we celebrate it in Sweden and I will add some nice native expressions connected to New Year as well. I hope you will like it.
New Year’s Eve — Nyårsafton
It is somehow magical, I mean this period when the old year is counting down the remaining days and everything and everybody is full of hope and new energy. I love it. As well as other people here in Sweden.
Nyårsafton is a special day and Swedes like to celebrate it with friends (unlike Christmas there we stick with our families for the most part). And despite the freezing temperatures, we often toast the New Year outdoors, watching fireworks and making a list with New Year’s resolutions.
The use of fireworks is being debated (you know the drill — nature, sustainability, climate change etc. etc. are hot topics in Sweden), but you will still see them light up the sky across Sweden.
