Being totally wrong can happen every now and then. We use this saying att vara feel ute to express that. It is not even possible to translate this word-for-word (it would be something like to be wrong out).
Nu är du helt fel ute. Det är inte alls vad politikern menar med den meningen.
You are barking up the wrong three here. That’s not at all what the politician is saying with that sentence.
