Greeting and introduction cookies

In the morning the first thing you usually say to anybody you meet is godmorgon, which simply means good morning. Note that we use this phrase only in the morning in Swedish.

Godmorgon — Good morning

When you want to greet someone during the day you would say hej which sounds quite informal but we actually use it both with strangers and with your friends and family.

Sometimes you can even hear goddag which is kind of old-fashioned (or out dated) but some people still use it just for fun. Some people even say god dagens which means pretty much the same — good morning.

Hej — Hello, good morning

In the evening you can still use hej or hejsan when you greet people. There is even a polite variant godkväll which basically means good evening. But it sounds somehow official and we don’t use…
